Nazarene News - 11/07/2010
On the 3rd and 4th July 2010, we had the 10th edition of the VBS of the Sobradinho Church of the Nazarene, with the theme: “With Christ in the boat, everything will go well”. We had two wonderful days, with the presence of approximately 300 children and 80 helpers, all members of our church. The children were so happy with three trampoline beds, plays, choreography, praise music, games, crafts, delicious snacks and lunch on Saturday. All the activities were held in the churches ground, where a large canopy with a capacity for over 300 people was installed, as well as a platform and another canopy, and two portable loos. All the children got a T shirt with the theme of our VBS, and the name of the Church of the Nazarene in the back. They also received, at the end, a beautiful photo taken by Cristian Phillips and a bag full of sweets, etc. It would be impossible to describe the happiness of all the children. On Sunday morning, after listening to the Word of God, by Pr. Delse Phillips, the Director of the VBS, they said a prayer, accepting Christ as their Personal Savior! We also had the presence of three sisters from the Bristol Church of the Nazarene in the UK; Mary, Helen and Laura, who helped out a lot! We would like to thank all the teams for the excellent work carried out, and may God bless you all powerfully!
Rev. Paul Robert Phillips (Senior Pastor)

Last Sunday’s “Feijoada”, as usual, was delicious! We would like to thank sister Valdinéia, Darilene and all the team! Many visitors came for this special lunch, as always.
N.B. “Feijoada” is one of the typical Brazilian dishes, made of black beans and the prime parts of the pork. It is served with white rice, “farofa” (another Brazilian specialty, made with flour, bacon, eggs, etc), spring greens and sliced oranges. It used to be made by the slaves with the rest of the parts of the pork, which the Portuguese colonizers would not eat! (tail, feet, knees, ears and so on..) But it smelled so good, that they ordered the slaves to cook this dish for them as well!
Every Wednesday morning, beginning at 06:30 AM we have a special prayer meeting, and afterwards we have a delicious breakfast together! Then each of us goes to work and all our various activities.
In our last “Naza Movies”, we showed the film “Gifted Hands”, about a black American pediatric neurosurgeon, a servant of the Lord, who defeated all barriers till he became one of the most famous doctors in his specialty. This is a true story, and it is an incredible story. The doctor’s name is Ben Carson. We also had pop corn and juice! Congratulation to the NEW GENERATION (young people), responsible for this activity!
Last Sunday, Pr. Paul felt it from the Lord to once again, have a special homage to Israel. He called to the front of the church, the couples who were present, the leaders of the praise and some other youth to participate in this ceremony. Junior da Fé and Eder Lamar, held the Israeli flag (original flag from Israel), and had their heads covered by the kipa. Rev. Paul with his kipa and talit (sacerdotal stole), prayed for Israel, for peace in the Holy Land. This was done after Pr. Carlos, Ramon’s father, who was visiting us with his father, having read Psalm 122. These were very blessed moments, consecrated to our God.
In 2009 till the beginning of January 2010 (one and a half months), the Church of the Nazarene in Sobradinho, sent a youth to the Bristol Church of the Nazarene, to help with his instrument (guitar) and also learn a lot about the English culture and language. Filipe Basilio was chosen by Rev. Paul Phillips!
Last Wednesday, we had a blessed service at Filipe’s home, to celebrate his arrival from England. We thank his parents, Wellington and Irenilda, and his sisters, Luana and Leticia, for the great time. Pr. Paul preached a sermon from Ecclesiast, chapter 12, which was a special message for the young people present. The snack after the service was delicious, with sweet rice, chocolate cake, corn cake, mini sandwiches, “cheese bread” and so on. Thank you sister Irenilda!
